Another social story from a sibling thank you for sharing!
"After my 13 year old sister was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar disorder, the first thing I could think of was how my family and friends would react. Where I come from, mental health is severely stigmatized, so having a condition is not seen in a positive light. I saw my sister suffering because of her being undermined by her teachers because of her behavior. She doesn’t know her diagnosis until today because she will probably not be able to embrace it. Not because she is not strong enough, but because of the social implications of having a mental health problem. I found it as a way to get to be even closer to her, helping her in what I could. Now, she has been embracing more her own condition, along with her friends. However, a long time will pass until she feels completely comfortable with openly talking about her issues with others (sometimes even including my family) due to the lack of understanding and respect towards mental health conditions."
