An Exposition

The Kikker Project's aim is to inform and educate the general population about disabilities and create a space for siblings and families of disabled individuals to share and feel less isolated. Hi, I am Alice, I am currently based in the Netherlands and attend @uwcadriatic in Duino, FVG, Italy. I grew up with 2 siblings, both with a range of serious disabilities and for years I felt isolated and hopeless. I believed the world didn't understand what I was going through, until I met another girl, she too was like me, her brother had a disability too. We found over the years that although our siblings were so different, it was comforting to talk to someone who could relate during the highs and lows. For years I wanted to find a way to connect siblings to prevent the solitude I had felt but wasn't sure how to start. Well, here is my start! Moreover, I wanted to create a space to inform people about that complexities of disabilities through the eyes of both families and individuals. Past my hopelessness and quiet bottled up anger, I realised that a lot of the judgement and negative experiences were due to a lack of understanding and fear of the unknown. With this in mind, I hope to begin to prevent some of these unnecessary and unfortunate occurrences happening, or if they do, at least there are things to do instead of feeling lonely and hopeless. I called this The Kikker Project because 'Kikker' is 'Frog' in Dutch and l am half French and half British and they do love the tease...and humour has saved my spirits many times...additionally my disabled sister used to be obsessed with frogs as a child but that small obsessive interest actually got us to connect over it. Kikker Project is all about connecting ...the dots. Much love The Kikker Project 🐸💕
